This happened alongside the rights holders of Dungeons & Dragons, Hasbro, suing Atari due to them sublicensing the DnD license to Bandai Namco. Turbine claimed that Atari had failed to live up to their obligations in regard to the support of the game all back in 2006, when Atari still held the video game rights to the Dungeons & Dragons franchise. In August of 2009, not long after the game's relaunch as a free to play title, Turbine filed a lawsuit against Atari. Daybreak Games took over publishing from Atari. As part of the separation, they took the licences for both games with them. In December 2016 the teams for DDO and Lord of the Rings Online split of from Turbine to form Standing Stone Games.
